Purple Tee Golf Classic

Despite the pandemic, Metro Bethesda Rotary Club was able to hold our largest fundraiser of the year, the Purple Tee Golf Classic! Due to the pandemic, though, this fundraiser had a slightly different look. We were still able to golf in person — Whiskey Creek Golf Course practiced all the recommended COVID precautions. However, we moved the date from late spring to September. Also, our silent auction was held online instead of in the Clubhouse.

We were so happy to have you participate, either as a golfer, sponsor, volunteer, or all three! Please check out the 2020 Purple Tee event flyer that provides the details on the various levels of participation. We look forward to seeing you again in 2021!

2020 Purple Tee Beneficiaries

Purple Tee Supports Wounded Vets

With the COVID Pandemic, many outpatient mental health programs for veterans are on hold or being held virtually. Some residential mental health facilities have closed. Under these conditions, suicide hotline calls by veterans were up by 12% in March, just a few weeks into the crisis. More than ever, we need to support organizations like SMGA and Team River Runners who directly support our wounded veterans by using golf and kayaking as therapy to improve their mental and physical well being.

The Salute Military Golf Association

The SMGA’s mission is to provide rehabilitative golf programs, experiences, and family inclusive golf opportunities for post 9/11 wounded war veterans in an effort to improve the quality of life for these American heroes. Eligible veterans and service members include those wounded or injured in post 9/11 military operations, including those with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Team River Runner

Team River Runner’s mission is to provide all veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose, and new challenges through adventure and adaptive paddle sports. The Purple Tee supports the Walter Reed chapter of Team River Runner.

MBR Foundation

The purpose of the MBR foundation is to support the Metro Bethesda Rotary Club’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance locally and internationally, and to promote peace, understanding, and educational and cultural advancement.
